Workshop session 15/02/11

In the workshop session yesterday, we had half of the session being taught about photography to go towards our final piece, and then the other half doing paper work and development. I wanted to created something with curve, to make it an organic form, and I was trying to figure out how to make a dome (eg, to look like half an orange etc) but I couldn't quite perfect it, however I did come up with a fairly interesting structure, it reminded me of either a cut up onion, or half of an avocado with the stone in or an orange with it's segments, or even a flower, possibly a rose, I dont know, let me know what you think?

Some Secondary Research

For my final pieces, I've decided to focus on natural forms, mainly fruit, vegetables and flowers, and just their general shape and forms. So the other day I cut up an apple, not very exciting but, it's research, I was interested in the way the seeds within an apple can form the shape of a star, if cut a certain way, and this itself is a form of a repeat pattern! which links into my brief. So i took a few photos, just to show you. I want to buy a pineapple next...

more paper!

I created these structures during a workshop with Richard Sweeney, he made us all use the same technique of slicing and all using the same measurements, so that we all had the same basic shape, and we basically just had to see what different designs and structures we all came up with. I will admit I struggled at first, but I finally got somewhere.

Interesting shapes! Then I decided to experiment again with lighting through the structures, I also used coloured light to make it interesting...

I'm quite pleased with the way that these structures look in dim light, think it makes them look really interesting!

Inspiration!

Some inspirational pictures that I have found whilst doing primary research. I guess that the half cut orange, the honeycomb and the pineapple would be very useful to me as it is important to have repetition in my piece.
I just need the creative juices to flow!

Paper folding

Today, I have mostly been paper folding! and doing the whole repetitive pattern thing, even though i am currently looking at natural forms, the creation I made today didn't really reflect that. It's an origami "Waterbomb" that I got taught to make when I was little, and I always find myself making them whenever I am bored and it only just occured to me the other day when i was making one that, Hey! it's a form of paper folding, So I created them all in different sizes!
So let's look at them from teeny to big shall we?

All Together Like a Box Family!
Then I tried to see what it would be like, using light, to see if any interesting shadows occurred, unfortunately I found that because they're such solid shapes, nothing interesting really happened.

I'm mostly looking at natural forms such as flowers, leaves, fruit and veg etc, just looking at the natural patterns that they can form.
